“The photographer Ingo Mittelstaedt, born in 1978, studied under Dörte Eißfeldt and since 2007 under Candice Breitz in Braunschweig. In his photographs, he deals with the isolation and representation of familiar elements of collective memory and individual perception.
The pictures work like a déjà vu, they evoke both a feeling of familiarity and incertitude. His photographs are complex mysteries, which use, pretend, imitate and benefit from the fact that our senses are avaricious for quick perception and evaluation and thus susceptible to deceptions. Mittelstaedt’s interest lies in moments like the getting up too quickly and its following dizziness or the accidentally forgotten fly and the indecision to close it or to do nothing, hoping that no one will mention the mishap. In these moments the perception of time is changing and one second can become a small eternity.”
