Nascida em Coimbra, em 1982, Sofia Silva completou o seu primeiro curso de fotografia no IPF de Lisboa, com 24 anos, depois de variadas incursões noutras áreas. Mantendo acesa a paixão pela imagem mudou-se para Tomar onde, em 2008, concluiu o Curso Superior de Fotografia.

Em 2009, de regresso à capital, Sofia foi seleccionada para integrar o grupo de Emergentes dos Encontros da Imagem de Braga e, logo de seguida, também para integrar a 6ª edição do Anteciparte, com exposição no Museu do Oriente. No ano seguinte as suas obras viajaram por lugares como Itália, Praga e Viena.

Nesse mesmo ano, Sofia mudou-se para Glasgow onde, em 2011, obteve o grau de MFA na Glasgow School of Art. Regressada a Portugal, integrou o corpo docente do Curso Superior de Fotografia do Instituto Politécnico de Tomar, onde dá aulas. Encontra-se de momento a fazer o Doutoramento em Belas Artes na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Faculdade de Lisboa.

Born in Coimbra, Portugal, in 1982, she completed her first photography course in Lisbon at the age of 24,. She then moved back to greener landscapes and graduated in Photography in 2008. Back to Lisbon, the following year she was selected to join the group of emerging photographers at the Photo festival in Braga and was shortlisted for the 6th edition of Anteciparte, held at the Orient Museum.

Between 2009 and 2011, the Glasgow School of Art became part of Sofia’s life, where she concluded an MFA with the generous help of a Caloust Gulbenkian Foundation grant. As result of being shortlisted for the Art Laguna Prize she exhibited in Italy, Prague and Vienna.

For the past two years Sofia has been lecturing on Photography and is currently doing a PhD in Fine Arts. She has taken up a lot more writing these days which can be seen at one of her longtime projects, a blog called Nihilsentimentalgia, which she has been running for the past five years.
